Positive influence for life

A challenge for your body.
A goal to call your own.

01

Learn a practical skill

Build a foundation in movement, technique and control. Training gives you something specific to practise and improve.

02

Make time to move

Step away from the desk and into an active class. Work on coordination, balance and fitness as part of your training.

03

Grow your confidence

Trying something unfamiliar takes courage. Build confidence by following through, learning from feedback and noticing your progress.

04

Find your focus

Give your attention to the next movement, the next pattern and the person you are training with. Make room in your week for a different kind of challenge.

05

Train with other people

Share the learning process with classmates. Encourage one another and enjoy being part of a local martial arts community.

06

Keep learning

Whether you are a beginner or returning to training, there is room to ask questions, refine your technique and set a meaningful goal.

Every step counts

You belong at the beginning, too.

The first class can feel like the hardest one to walk into. You won’t be expected to know the terminology or keep up with an experienced student. Start by learning the basics, asking questions and getting comfortable with the group.

Our teaching is grounded in the five tenets of Taekwon-Do: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

Is this suitable for a complete beginner?

Yes. Many students begin with no martial arts background at all. Master Barker introduces the foundations clearly and explains why each exercise matters, so you have both a starting point and a direction. You are not expected to know the terminology or keep pace with an experienced student on your first day.

Am I too old or too unfit to start?

You do not need to reach a certain fitness level before beginning. People come to martial arts with different bodies, activity levels and goals. Speak with Master Barker about where you are starting and what you would like to accomplish. The aim is steady, responsible progress—not comparing yourself with the person beside you.

Do teenagers and adults train together?

Our Teens & Adults program welcomes students ages 13 and up. Training together can create a supportive environment where students learn from different levels of experience while following the same standards of courtesy and control. If you are asking for a teenager, Master Barker can explain the class structure and expectations before the first visit.

What will I learn?

You will build a foundation in ITF Taekwon-Do, including movement, striking fundamentals, patterns, balance, control and the principles behind safe partner practice. As you progress, Master Barker will explain how self-defence work, partner drills and grading fit into the program. Technique and character development are taught together.

What should I wear to my first visit?

Wear comfortable exercise clothing that allows you to move freely and bring a water bottle. You do not need to buy a uniform before seeing how the class feels. When you arrange your visit, we will confirm any specific requirements and explain uniforms or equipment before you make a purchase.

I have an injury or a mobility concern. What should I do?

Tell Master Barker before attending so you can discuss the physical demands of class and whether practical adjustments may be possible. Be clear about any restrictions or movements that cause concern. If you are unsure whether training is appropriate for your condition, speak with a qualified healthcare professional before participating.

Will I have to spar or compete straight away?

No beginner should feel pushed into an activity they do not understand. Partner training is introduced with instruction, control and safety in mind. Tell Master Barker about your comfort level and goals, and he will explain how sparring or tournament opportunities fit into training. Competition is an option for interested students, not the only reason to join.

Can I return if I trained years ago?

Yes. Returning students are welcome to have a conversation about their previous style, rank, experience and time away. Rather than guessing where to restart, Master Barker will help identify an appropriate place to begin, refresh the fundamentals and rebuild confidence at a sensible pace.

When and where do you train?

Teens & Adults train Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15–7:15 PM at 2041 Harvey Avenue, Suite 100, Kelowna, British Columbia. Please arrange your first visit before arriving so we can expect you, answer your questions and make your introduction to the class comfortable.

How much does it cost?

The trial registration page shows the current starting option. Contact Master Barker for the latest membership, uniform and equipment information so you understand the full cost before joining. We are happy to answer questions first; arranging a visit does not require you to arrive already committed.

How long does it take to earn a black belt?

There is no single timetable that fits everyone. Progress depends on attendance, consistent practice, skill development and meeting the requirements at each stage. A black belt is an important milestone, but the larger value is the confidence, discipline and ability developed along the way. Master Barker can explain the grading path without promising a shortcut.
